This is self portrait one of four for my photography class. I think I will be taking a break from macro shots for awhile – except for Macro Monday of course. I need to stretch out and get some practice lighting other scenes.

Strobst: Vivitar 285 at 1/2 power fired with a Cactus V4. It was bounced off my white 33" shoot through umbrella that I line the outside of with a mylar blanket. The kind sold for camping. I really need to invest in a 43" Westcott double fold with a removable silver liner or better yet, a soft box. I also bounced a Canon 420ez at full power off the wall behind me. It was snooted with a converted beer coozy.

  • Nice clarity and lighting. What is the name of the class you are taking and where?
  • The class is Intermediate/Advanced Photography offered at the local community college. It's a non-credit class just for hobbyist. It has been disappointing so far. The class is almost entirely focused on composition and has not made mention of lighting or exposure yet. At the very least, it provides a weekly assignment which forces me to shoot out side what I normally would.
