Farve is hard not to like. The drama of the upcoming Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys game is awesome. Both teams are 10-1 and are the cream of a pathetic NFC showing this year. But as much as you want to root for either team to win it all, this is like rooting for an Olympic athlete to win the bronze medal.

With the success dominance of the New England Patriots, goes all hope of the any NFC (or AFC for that matter) team winning the Super Bowl. And, if Peyton Manning doesn’t throw six interceptions (something he’s only done once in his career), no team on their best day from the NFC would beat the Indianapolis Colts. So the real Super Bowl? When the Colts and the Patriots meet in the playoffs (I know they already met once this year, but it wasn’t a playoff game).

This is the exact situation you have in Major League Baseball right now. Rooting for the Diamondbacks was fun, but no one in Phoenix honestly thought they would have a chance against the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. I would venture a guess that fans in Colorado felt the same. We’ve also seen this in recent years with in the NBA with the Western Conference having the best teams and the Eastern Conference just there. This will be different this year as the Boston Celtics look seriously tough. (Great, the Red Sox, the Patriots and now the Celtics. Can’t Boston share some of the glory?)

But, don’t be that fair weather fan. You have to root for who you root for. You wouldn’t root for a Chinese athlete to win gold just because you know the American is going to win bronze, and you shouldn’t root for the Patriots or the Colts if your a fan of the Raiders or the Chargers. (However, you could root for the Patriots to go undefeated to rub in in the smug faces of the 1972 Dolphins.)
